I grew up in a loving, nurturing home in Decatur, Alabama with two siblings and both
of my parents. I have a twin sister and a brother who is four years younger than
me. I was blessed with having almost all of my needs met growing up because my
parents had good jobs and values. My parents taught us to be respectful and
responsible for our actions and to value our education. They expected us to work
hard and seek help if we needed it so that we would become successful students.
My community has always been supportive of my dreams and well-being just like my
family. My church family, mentors, teachers, and friends inspired me to follow
my desire to become an educator and pursue a higher education. They helped me
utilize my gifts in teaching and provided opportunities for me to grow in a safe
environment. Because of everyone's support and encouragement, I did well in
high school and at the college level. In high school, I felt a sense of belonging
in the clubs I was involved in and a sense of pride in the honors I was given as
I excelled academically at the top of my class. At Anderson University, I have
been involved in challenging classes that stretched my learning and understanding
of what it means to be a professional educator.
I have always been active in my home church, Sixth Avenue Church of God, with my
family. I was involved as a teenager in my church's youth group and as a child
in our children church's activities. My faith drives me toward a career of
service and dedication to others, especially children.
One of my new hobbies that I love is cooking. I love collecting and reading cookbooks
and trying new recipes. New desserts are my favorite! I also enjoy traveling with
friends and family, trying new foods and visiting beautiful landmarks and
attractions. I have been to Spain and Mexico visiting new cultures and practicing
speaking Spanish. I have also been blessed to have traveled to many major U.S.
cities with my family. I also love to watch movies with my friends and just relax
at home. I enjoy swimming in the summer and riding my bike around the neighborhood
to stay active. I am anxious to get away from the Indiana winters and back to the
southern warmth!
